Spring is Here #SOL16

Today is the first day of spring. I live in Alabama, so we've had a taste of spring already. My daffodils have come and gone. I've worn sandals to school. I put the coats and sweaters away. The new leaves are starting on the hydrangeas and the maple tree. My lawn seems to be growing green, although weeds seem to be plentiful rather than grass. The azaleas are full of buds, waiting to open. I've begun taking my afternoon walks again, now that it is staying light later. I love this time of year. Although we make resolutions in January, this is the time for me. Spring is a time for reflection and renewal. Spring is a time when I try and get my head on straight again. Spring is a time for me to set new goals. Spring is a time for new beginnings.

  1. I'm jealous that you have been able to celebrate spring before me. I am just a few steps behind you here in Pennsylvania. I'm looking forward to green lawns, longer days, an a time to renew. Your post has given me a gentle reminder of what's to come.

    1. Amy - I spend summers in Pennsylvania - a beautiful part of the country - and know you'll have spring soon!

  2. What a great connection between the rebirth of life in spring and the renewals that take place in our own lives at this time of year! I'm with Amy -- I'm jealous. Spring started her travels to Wisconsin, but I think she took a detour. It snowed yesterday morning. :(

  3. Lovely spring slice. The light matters so much. And then the green grass and flowers. Slowly, slowly, spring is waking up in Estonia. I agree with you that spring is time for reflection and renewal.

  4. I couldn't agree more about spring being a time for renewal - this is the time I like to be more active, eat smarter, and take better care of my relationships. I'm not sure why spring, and not the new year, but it's very true.
On a separate note, now that I'm farther south than Ohio for a visit, I am shocked by the amount of plants that are in bloom, or past bloom. It's lovely to see, if I can look past all that pollen on the car!

  5. That sounds so deliciously Spring-y. I, on the other hand, am preparing for yet another Maine snow storm! I think I'll visit you in my mind. :)

  6. Living in New Mexico I feel we have had many spring days already, which is awesome coming from Chicago! I do love this time of year as well the earth does seem like it is waking up!

  7. Love your idea of setting new goals in the Spring. That is when I, too, feel more like "coming alive" myself. You saw what happened to my newly spouted daffodils...snow!! :(

  8. Ah, sandals! It will be a while for us, but we've had some lovely warm days. I like your idea that this is a good time for reflection and starting anew.

  9. we're at that same place in East Texas, so I totally feel this slice! I've always felt that call to spring, too---but since I'm a spring baby, I use my birthday as a 2nd renewal/resolution point.

  10. Oh, my goodness! I live in Wisconsin, and it's 38 degrees here. I am so jealous of your properly-springy First Day of Spring!

  11. It's the first day of spring it CT and tonight it's supposed to snow on our daffodil buds (which have NOT yet bloomed!) My flip flops are talking to me, but so far I can't answer...

  13. I like the idea of a spring resolution - possibly easier to keep...especially if outdoor walking is part of it! I enjoyed your slice.
